Government Fact Sheet

The Government & public services sector is a large industry providing services to approximately 43,000 people over 21,000 square kilometres and is a significant contributor to the economy and employment in East Gippsland.

The East Gippsland region is comprised of over 80% public land including nine National Parks, two Marine National Parks and a range of State and local parks and reserves that require management by government and public services.

In addition, the region is also responsible for the largest inland lake system in Australia, the Gippsland Lakes.

This sector is comprised of a range of organisations including Department of Health, DELWP, Parks Victoria, VicRoads, the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and Gippsland Ports, with the East Gippsland Shire Council leading the way as the largest employer in this sector with over 350 staff members.
