Food & Wine

With its fertile soils, good rainfall and temperate climate, East Gippsland is a food bowl for Australia, producing fresh fruit and vegetables all year round.

The region is also renowned for its quality Gippsland beef and excellent seafood. As well as a plentiful supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, the region produces quality wines, beer, olives and olive oil, chocolate, beef and condiments.

Set out on a food trail to learn about local food production from the producers and growers themselves. Pack a picnic filled with goodies for an al fresco lunch, or settle into a café or restaurant and savour your meal with a glass of wine from our award winning wineries.

East Gippsland also is home to one of the largest fishing ports in Victoria, and the Lakes Entrance Fishing Co-op processes 4.2 million kilograms of sustainably fished seafood each year, including flathead, gummy shark, prawns, scallops, abalone and squid. Watch the fleet as they motor into port, then buy your seafood straight from the boats. It’s hard to get fresher than that!
