East Gippsland has hospitals located in Bairnsdale, Orbost and Omeo with outreach services and allied health operating in most towns and communities throughout the region. Gippsland Lakes Community Health is the main community health provider across East Gippsland.

Bairnsdale Regional Health Service operates the primary hospital for the region. The service provides a total healthcare facility, offering a full range of acute care, general medicine and subacute services, including emergency, rehabilitation, specialised cardiac wing, palliative care, maternity, paediatrics and surgery.

Hospital or health services also are provided in towns such as Omeo, Mallacoota, Orbost and Lakes Entrance, with bush nursing and health centres in some other communities.

MSMCEast Gippsland also has a full range of private medical and dental practitioners along with specialist services and aged-care providers. This includes 13 medical clinics, a wide array of visiting specialist services, resident surgeons and physicians. Specialised programs to assist the Indigenous community. Acute care, primary care, aged care and community and home-based health services, along with innovative preventative programs designed to keep our community fit and healthy. Private practitioners include GPs, dentists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, psychologists and natural health specialists.

There is an array of high quality aged-care facilities along with in-home health and support services to assist elderly residents who prefer to remain in their own home.

Road ambulances, fixed-wing and helicopter ambulance services are available to transport emergency medical cases to Melbourne when required.

Whilst East Gippsland attracts its fair share of top professionals in their field, there are always opportunities for more qualified staff to work and live here.
