Transport & Access

East Gippsland can be accessed in the East and West via the Princes Hwy, part of the picturesque Sydney to Melbourne Touring route. A detour to Canberra and the ACT can be accessed from Cann River via the Monaro Highway, providing a more direct route to Sydney.

Gippsland's High Country is connected by the Great Alpine Road, Australia's highest all year touring route which stretches from Wangaratta, over Mount Hotham, ending in Bairnsdale.

V/Line passenger-rail service connects Bairnsdale to Melbourne four times per day (each way) with a travel time of approximately 3.5 hours. The rail services are linked to coach services so that travellers can reach many other destinations within East Gippsland with ease.

Bus services also operate throughout the region and aerodromes are located in Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Orbost/Marlo and Mallacoota.

Excellent goods transport services offer daily pick-up and delivery of goods between Melbourne to Lakes Entrance and beyond.
